SURREALISM

Surrealism was a style of art that grew out of the earlier Dada Movement and flourished primarily between World War I and II in Europe. The goal of these artists was to unite the conscious and unconscious realms of the mind and experience so that a reality would be fused with the world of dream. Surrealism was often seen as a reaction to highly structured Cubism, and paved the way for later movements such as Abstract Expressionism.
