POP ART

Pop Art began in the mid 1950s in England but reached the height of its popularity in New York a decade later. Artists who worked in this style focused on objects of popular culture and post-war consumerism such as comic books, celebrity images and depictions of everyday household products. The aim of Pop Artists was to defy the intellectual pretentiousness of Abstract Expressionism and blend the boundaries of high and low art.
