PROVENANCE

At the start of the 1900s, publications such as the Popular Magazine, one of the most widely circulated and most influential magazines of the time, began to concentrate on extended editorials and short novels within each issue. In the issue that ran the week of August 25, 1911, a short story, "Amature Luck," was published, with the accompanying illustration and landmark piece by William H.D. Koerner. In the piece, Koerner exhibits his unparalleled ability to capture the emotional and expressive elements of a single moment. A true testament to Americana, the fishermen bask in a rich palate of golds and greens. An air of nostalgia to a favorite American pastime.
